Hannah and Vern – The Walled Garden at Cowdray
Posted by: | CommentsBack in the late 80s Toyota (yes, this is a blog post about a wedding in Midhurst) had a very annoying yet very addictive advertising campaign featuring a chap called Ernest (real name Jim Varney). In it Ernest was always trying to get his point across the mysterious ‘Vern’. “Hey Vern” was the battlecry and from there all things developed. Imagine when I get an email from a ‘Vern’ enquiring about wedding photography. To count them would be futile but the number of times in our consult meeting I wanted to say “hey Vern” were pushing more fingers and toes than I’ve got (so 20+ as I have the requisite number). Even on the wedding day I was tempted. But I knew it would mean nothing. So, for all you ‘Vern’ lovers out there. Click here to get in the game.
The star studded element didnt stop there. With Hannah and Vern being fans of a certain Westwood (yes, Tim Westwood, the DJ) they contacted him about DJ the wedding. Whilst Westwood replied that he doesn’t do weddings he did send a personal video message to them. How cool is that?
I was particularly taken in the colour choice for the wedding. White and grey. Sometimes a very dark grey at that. Not something I had seen before. Unique…just like Hannah and Vern. We dodged the rain, enjoyed the clouds and even did some RickRolling. What a great day. Thanks for having us around.
There will be a link to more images after these…so scroll down and then click at the bottom!

Dude…Seriously?
Posted by: | CommentsOK. Not that I actually took my own advice nearly 15 years ago but you can still benefit from my ‘wisdom’.
This is all about what the Groom wears. So listen up boys. Your Bride will have spent ages deciding on a dress. Every detail examined, cross examined, questioned, Bridesmaid checked, Mum verified. You…well, you just pop into Moss Bros and get a bog standard with a matching cravat. OK, there’s ACTUALLY nothing wrong with that. It looks great and if you’re lucky there might even be some cuppage but be real…get a tailored suit. A memory of a lifetime and something you can wear for a good time to come.
Matthew (as in Andrea and Matthew) did just that. A fantastic tailor made wedding suit from Farnham and London Made to Measure Suit Maker Room Ten. Matthew looked the business as did his Groomsmen because Room Ten also hire suits for the remainder of the wedding party. How cool is that! Think about it. To find out more about Matthew’s suit and what he thought of the entire experience by visiting Room Ten’s Blog.

Posted by: | CommentsSometimes you wake up to hear “this could be the hottest day of the year”. In some situations you might reckon..fantastic. Perhaps if all you’ve got planned is a session by the pool or book under a tree in the park its some of the best news you’ve heard in a long time. But if you plan is get dressed up in a multi-layered dress or a tie and waist coat or if you’re the chump following the previous you might have second thoughts. So is the summer of 2010. Already better than the last 4 summers combined it shaping up to be something to be remembered (provided I haven’t just jinxed it). However I was wondering if it would be possible to arrange for say 2 hours of cloudy overcast skies between the hours of 1:30 and 3:30 every Saturday. Let’s push the boat out…let’s go for 12:30 to 4:30. Then it all goes away and we can all shine in the warm glow of the fading summer sun. No? OK, it was worth a shot.
Hot sun and a Yule Brenner hair cut aren’t the best of friends but with liberal sunscreen I can just about make it…and make it I did to Andrea and Matt’s Sensational Summer wedding at St Andrew’s Church in Farnham followed by a most lovely reception in the Walled Gardens at Cowdray in Midhurst. Two towns, two counties, too lovely. Andrea and Matt first met at Art College. Having ‘arty’ clients is always fun. You know things are going to be ‘just so’. Generally they are quite laid back about things and they didn’t let me down. Thanks to Andrea and Matt as well their friends and family AND the chap who kissed me for making us feel so welcome. As they say at the end of children’s programme….a good time was had by all!

Dandruff free
Its not about the shot…its about the content. Look around and you’ll get it.

Hmm…well….it’ll have to do :)

Its like an episode of SATC

In all my years of wedding photography-dom, I’ve never taken this shot. Go figure
ABC might call it ‘The Look of Love’. I call it 39C under that dress and boy she knows it.
My Just One…you know, honestly….you should become a fan!

It seemed an odd time to celebrate Ronan Keating’s entire back catalogue
Never trust a man in a purple tie — I’m just sayin’

Go on…you TELL me which aperture (they, and only they, will get it)
Judging by Matt’s position I reckon his next words were ’5-6-7-8′
Some might call it a marquee…others a tent…I just call it wicked

Today I’m not going for shots of the main players during the speeches…today its about the toasts

Crimewatch!
That’s NOT my beer and whilst I appreciate a man with a similar hair cut to mine I’m afraid a sneaky kiss on the cheek was as far as I was prepared to go!

That’s two classic faces from the same person…she’ll love me for it…really!

And Now a Few From Darren
Accidental Resevoir

I love this…because these guys aren’t just a guitar duo hired to entertain…they are friends of Andrea and Matt. Great shot Darren.

Posted by: | CommentsSometimes you find yourself in what seems to be the ‘second’ position. With Darren already poised at position A, I boogie up the stairs and take up a station just down from him…then I discover that perhaps I always had Position A! More late on Monday afternoon.

Sussex Wedding Photography – Elly and Adam – Stanmer House
Posted by: | CommentsOn Saturday Darren and I made the cross country journey to Brighton to photograph the wedding of Elly and Adam at Stanmer House in Stanmer Park. Nothing sends fear into the heart of a road traveller than the words Brighton and Bank Holiday Weekend combined. Lucky for us that Elly’s parent’s house as well as Stanmer Park weren’t all that close to the mayhem known as the Brighton seafront. Sadly this meant I had to turn down Eggs Benedict with Fat Boy Slim (I just call him ‘Norm’) thanks to head on collisions, farm traffic and daft civil engineering projects. OK, I’m lying about part of that, its up to you to work it out. Elly and Adam, as well as their guests, made us feel at home even if a few of them flashed a couple of Magnums at us..luckily, there were no Blue Steel’s (sighs in relief). All the same, it great to photograph a wedding on BH weekend in the (soon to be) summer sunshine.

You know its going to be a good day when….

This will no doubt tickle the Van Trapps

What?…2 shoes on the blog and the second aren’t even the Bride’s….take that man to the institution!

I’m expecting her to say “breathe, breathe through it”..but she didn’t

Taking some hard tipple before the guests arrive…

…with some decent stuff. Brought by … not the best man … but the chap who organised the stag do. Classic!

Look mate…its only a flower…you’ll be fine

Oh look…perhaps my last unobstructed view of anyone for the next 25 minutes..GRRRR

See what I mean….

But it did make an interesting ‘through the pillars’ shot

“A moat and a duck island for EVERYONE!”

Serious comment. First time ever I’ve seen a handwritten, personalised not for EVERY guest on their table place. I can’t be sure but I’m guessing the contents are more meaningful than Christmas cracker jokes.

Take’m to a nice secluded spot, instruct the Groom to give her to ‘Groom Love(tm)’ and then realise you were only 40 yards from the drinks reception. Uh oh.

Wonderful restored manor house…exquisite decaying doors. A match made in wedding-dom

Plasma…or what that LCD?

Recipe: Bubbles, A Point and Click, Fun Guest

You know when you’ve been sprinkled!

No…honestly…this makes PERFECT sense

Toast in German is….wait for it….toast. Of course I was looking in the breakfast translation department so who knows

It seemed an odd time to practice his Vincent Price impersonation

BM — No not ‘that’ BM…The Best Man BM

I nearly missed this…it took me a second to figure out why she was hamming it up for the crowd. Its funny…therefore I like it.

Proof we’re all just full of hot air

Sadly, not everyone gets the whole ‘toast, german, breakfast’ thing…as evidenced by contestant number 3

Decided to NOT select the Just One dancing shot this week

The ladies were left bemused when the question came from the DJ “would those gents wearing ladies underwear please raise your hands”
And Now…back by popular demand….Darren (he never actually left)

He said “damn, I focused on her hand”. I said “good”

Time for her first BOT

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Con-feta … great in salad

Rim(ish) light. Nice one D!

No plasma OR LCD here

He was a bit bummer he missed this one…I say, its perfect.

She wasn’t expecting the Star Trek transporter to be so effective
