Lisa and Duncan – Great Fosters Wedding Photographer
Posted by: | CommentsAs a wedding photographer, you are always on the look out for the venues which match your style. I’m not talking about my bell bottom trousers and enormous sideburns (both a lie by the way) but rather a venue that plays to your strengths. Fascinating architecture, wonderful window light and character driven interiors are all things that I think help accentuate the way I like to look at things. Great Fosters is one of those venues. Of course a venue is only a venue unless you fill it with great people and a warm couple.
Lisa and Duncan came as a recommendation from Nicky and Steve. If you want to reminisce about another wonderful venue which sadly has stopped doing weddings, take a look at this. It was wonderful to see them both and to see the bump of expectation.
The weather flirted with us all day. One minute it was stonking sunshine, the next rolling clouds. Thankfully it stayed dry, if not a little chilly, but it was enough for everyone to enjoy the gardens and see all the wonderful flowers. What’s interesting about Great Fosters is that you are only a hop off the M25, quite near Heathrow yet in a secluded estate in what feels like the heart of Surrey.

Can I now present, a few images from Lisa and Duncan’s wedding…wedding photography at Great Fosters.
Its Great…but its not the exceedingly large can of lager I was expecting

Some may call it foreshadowing…I love this hall and the window ain’t bad either

No matter how hard they stared, they never did see Jesus in the dress
This would happen to you to if you were reading the ‘Order of the Day’ as presented by your solicitor sister!
Phwoah!

Me and the registrar were close…rather close

girls…
It had to be done really

Not content with keeping it to herself, Lisa’s sister clearly shared the Order of the Day with little regard to it relative impact
James Brown
It seemed an odd place for a lorry to park with its headlights on…but there you go

Lisa and Duncan – Great Fosters Wedding Photography – Fab 4
Posted by: | CommentsRemember Fab 4….from last summer. Its what I do when I can’t blog the full ride quickly but I’m keen to give my couples something to chew on. These guys are off to Zambia in the morning so here is their Fab 4.
I had worked at Great Fosters once before. I knew it was going to be a sensational venue but I was struck at just how sensational it was. Simply lovely spaces to work some incredible images. Of course having Lisa and Duncan as the Bride and Groom certainly helped. Thanks for being open to my suggestions. The ticking watch and soothing tones of my voice had nothing to do with it. Have a great honeymoon and remember to check back in Jo’burg.

Sorry Duncan…just realised that you only appear as a small Lego figure in the second image. Trust me…I have loads :) Besides…I don’t want to tempt the ladies too much!
Pete and Phil’s Big Gay Wedding at Cain Manor
Posted by: | CommentsIn keeping with the in joke I am here to present to you Pete and Phil’s Big Gay wedding. As a Cain Manor photographer I’m keen to try new and interesting situations. This wedding certainly didn’t let me down. Of course, technically its not a wedding. Its a civil partnership. But here is what I can tell you about Pete and Phil. I sat through many speeches and countless ceremonies and I have come across very few people who so clearly loved each other, with such conviction, caring and tenderness than I did at the WEDDING on Saturday at Cain Manor. No BS, no exaggeration, no tall tales. It was a wedding I was only too happy to say at the end “man…that was great”.
Of course, being a civil partnership there are some things which invariably will change. In this case we had two Father of the Groom speeches. We had two Groom speeches. Despite having two Best Women, we didn’t get to enjoy a single speech from the lovely ladies. What didn’t change? The biggest NON change was the time it took both Pete and Phil to get ready. Classically groomed and ready to go in under 15 minutes. Nice!
Above all, their strong connection and love for each other cascaded from the top down. Friends and family alike carried on with the warmth throughout the day. A day won’t soon forget and provided they don’t send their album choices through on a Saturday afternoon (they know what I mean) then its one album I’m totally looking forward to designing.
A couple of links for you.
The venue: Cain Manor part of the Bijou Venue Group
The florist: Emma Lappin
The amazing cupcakes: Crumbs and Doilies
The hottest saxophone quartet around: A Good Reed
As usual, there are more photos to view on Facebook. In order to tag yourself (and I whole heartedly encourage you to do so) you need to ‘Like’ my Facebook Business Page (Facebook’s rules, not mine). But what’s the worst that could happen except you get forced to look at outstanding, creative and emotional wedding photography every week. Hardly a hardship! A link to the Facebook page will appear at the end of this post…as well as a link to how you can get 20% off reprints for a limited time.
Finally…in the immortal words of Pete Bell. “Tolerance and equality” — oh and “Big Gay Wedding”
To add a bit of balance, the first of my bookend Cain Manor photos
Seriously…getting shoe shots of men’s black shoes is a PITA. OK…so I found something I didn’t like :)

Symmetry…apart from the fact Phil ties one shoe before putting the other on…same as me. Pete, on the hand…a rebel?

More symmetry…right down to the hangers

’twas the first time I heard it…they all shouted it…BIG GAY WEDDING!
I kept getting the De Niro “I’m watchin’ you” from Meet the Parents from that kid
There’s something very street photography about this…not your typical wedding shot but something that I really like about it
Oh man…I’m back in heaven. The ceremony room light at Cain Manor! Yeehah!

Why couldn’t you just wear these shoes…heck of lot easier to photograph!
Aww…bless.
DOPPLEGANGER….today its Simon Calder

KYLIE?
Kylie, Kylie, Kylie!

Next stop…prison for breaking an entering — or rather just entering an opening — either way I’m not entirely sure Cain wanted me to use this space
No Butch Cassidy, but two sunflower kids
“Look through me” — so they did
4 x 2

Best Wo-Men
This almost warrants an animated GIF!
Pete’s Mad Dad!
No need to shout!…ok, there was!
The bookend complete!
To be notified when all of the photos are available for viewing and to get a 20% discount on reprints, please get in touch.

Phil and Pete – A Cain Manor Wedding – Just One
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve got lots to say about Pete and Phil’s ”Big Gay Wedding’ (part of what I have to say is why I can say that)…however I’m rushing off to London this morning to see a friend I’ve known since I was 4 or 5 years old. So basically, I’m going to do a Just One and then leave it with you.
I was kind of trapped during the speeches. At Cain Manor (a lovely Hampshire and Surrey borders wedding venue — there’s the SEO bit out of the way). there is a 30 ft window that sits behind the top table. Sometimes this isn’t a problem…but today the sun was in the worst position and there was a shaft of light that stopped my from moving in certain directions. When I took this picture I, at first, was pleased with the emotion and the moment but would have liked it more if I could have moved to crop out the ‘lovely lady’ on the right. Not that I don’t like the ‘lovely lady’ but perhaps this needed to more about Pete and Phil and no one else. Now I sit here and I see it and I think…”pah…she helps make the image”. A context, a supporting feeling. ‘Lovely ladies’ do that you know. (I hear photographers across the land say…move forward then…got burned by that earlier – HUGE shaft of light…let’s just say rock, paper, scissors is going to be a recovery job)
More tomorrow afternoon. Safe journey to SF guys!

Wedding Photography at Loseley House – Vicky and Wellington
Posted by: | CommentsBut you can call him Welly. Honestly. I have the place name to prove it.
On Saturday I ventured to Guildford for the last wedding of 2010. Its one I had been looking forward to shooting ever since Vicky and Welly booked me back at the Loseley House open day in February. I had been to Loseley once before, back in the summer of 2009. I was keen to see how a December wedding played out. I wasn’t disappointed. A grand Christmas tree in the hall made for a warm holiday feeling. Baubles the size of oranges and guests all in black tie contributed to a special occasion. It was like the 10 hours of Christmas minus the 5 golden eggs.
Whilst Darren was following Pinky (sorry, I mean Welly) around Godalming (apparently stopping off at Costa — boys do such different things hours before a wedding) I was hold up in the top floor of the Mandalay Hotel in central Guildford. A great starting point for any Guildford area wedding. I had feared enormous traffic and hordes of Christmas shoppers but thankfully the car park was more than adequate and although a stones throw from town my fears were never realised.
Loseley House’s ceremony room is second to none. Not knowing much about English periods and architecture I can’t say what it is apart from being ‘well cool’ (ala Ali G). Afterwards we all moved to the Tithe Barn where the reception and wedding breakfast takes place. I know my barns. I felt right at home. Throw in some free flowing champagne and wonderful meal (venison sausages and mash), thoughtful speeches, an excellent band and a fabulous couple (with great guests too) and you’ve got a great night.

Let’s play dress up…
The dress ‘hung’ out (geddit?) in Vicky’s parents’ room. I love the look he gives his ‘little girl’ here
Welly…never one to let the wrong words mess up a perfect card

Just a sliver of light…bingo!

Holy giant baubles Batman
Ohhh…right in the baubles
With his flash set at 1/1000000th power
Someone call the traditional photo cops…I’ve been busted

She too couldn’t believe the size of the baubles
On learned that she too had forgotten to set the video for the X-Factor final

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies
Plums…baubles…its all getting out of hand!

Would make a great desktop wallpaper

Don’t adjust your sets. Yes it the biggest Minnesota Vikings fan in the UK strutting his stuff

Band-eoke
Some took the Band-eoke a bit seriously
Now…two from Darren
(can I just say, that including only two from Darren is damn near criminal. He did a cracking job…only that I’ve run out of time, I’ve got Evan’s Christmas pageant to go to etc etc etc…you did great Mr D!)

Darren….he’s seriously good!
Loseley House Wedding Photographer – Vicky and Wellington – Just One
Posted by: | CommentsSaturday closed the year known as 2010 out in glorious fashion. A lovely couple, great friends and a fantastic venue. What a way to finish the year.
More from Vicky and Wellington’s wedding tomorrow. But for now, enjoy a Just One.
