Pippa and Alec – Merton Park and Hampton Court House

Pippa and Alec. Bless. Sometimes a couple really make you smile. There’s a warmth about them that perhaps may just come through a little brighter than others. For me it all came together at a red light. Eh? Yes, a red light. As the wedding car pulled away I raced back to my car and began my journey back to Hampton Court House. I figured I would catch and pass them and I was right. Just before we merged to the A3 south we were both stopped at a set of traffic lights. Their Jag pulled up next to me. I looked left to see them both laughing, Pippa eyes transfixed on Alec. She was facing me so I could see exactly what she was thinking. I sat there, staring at them, feeling a bit giddy. Pippa eyes briefly left Alec and drifted just a little to the left and basically right at me. I smiled. Pippa knew nothing. I didn’t even register. Her eyes returned to Alec and she smiled even bigger. I think that about sums them up.

It was great to get back to one of my favourite venues in Hampton Court House. Its got a certain feel that you won’t find anywhere else. Its kitsch…its old school…its unique. That’s why I like working there. Here’s to getting back there again this fall! Hopefully sooner.

Christmas Wedding at Bury Court – Kate and David

Ho Ho Ho…ITS CHRISTMAS! Thankfully no ears were damaged in that shout…but I’m guessing you can’t get Slade out of your head now can you? Its time for cheesy Mariah Carey songs and a universal distrust of Egg Nog by the British..seriously, its GREAT! Time for special takeaway cups at Starbucks and screaming children who would really rather think of Santa as the chap in the story and not the one who smells of a fake beard and Old Spice in the Grotto in the city centre. One of the best things about Christmas is a Christmas wedding and Kate and David will now always have a bumper month of December. I started off in the wonderful village of Odiham. Home of the Army helicopters and Kate. I wonder what the connection is that eventually she’d meet and marry a man in uniform. Following a fabulous ceremony at the church in the village (thanks to Gary, the vicar, for a unique and uplifting ceremony) it was back to one of the best wedding venues in the UK, The Barn at Bury Court. As a recommended photographer at Bury Court Barn I see weddings throughout the calendar year. Whatever the weather its an exceptional place to work.

Ruth and Rick – More From Nutfield Priory

As promised in my Just One, more from Ruth and Rick’s winter wedding at Nutfield Priory. A wedding full of Doctors, Lawyers, Biochemists and Physicists…and that’s just the Bride and Groom. A relatively warm afternoon in the hills of Surrey at a fabulous venue. Having worked at Nutfield a few times I knew what to expect. But then Ruth and Rick did like to throw a curve ball in. Something a little different for me. There would be no cake cutting shot…no first dance either. But there would be….A QUIZ. Family and friends sharpened their skills in all things Ruth and Rick (or Richard as the Registrar called him). Questions related to him : “what medieval instrument could he bore you to tears with”. Questions related to her : “what substance did she have too much of a child that turned her poo purple”. Questions related to them : “where did he propose”. I didn’t fare to well, but then I wasn’t really playing. Besides all the talk of purple poo did me right in.

Nikki and Dan – Chiddingfold and Ramster

Ahh…the lovely Nicola. But she goes by Nikki. Unlike my wife who would crack me over the head for calling her such. What’s the point? There is none. Welcome to my world.

Nikki and Dan were the first of my double wedding weekend. A lovely way to start the middle of September. I joined Nikki and her family at the pub across the road from their church in Chiddingfold…the lovely Crown Inn. Ironic that this was the location for one of my very first weddings many years ago. Things change I guess.

A quick hop across the road (well, she did ride in the awesome VW camper van) to church meant there was no excuse for being late. Of course having 112 bridesmaids all under the age of 14 would give anyone reason to be late. OK, I’m exaggerating. It was still a lot.

Once finished with the ceremony it was back in the ‘bus’ to Ramster. A lovely venue in the Surrey forests between Chiddingfold and Petworth. The sun was warm meaning a lovely break in the courtyard before heading back to speeches (which were first) and the evening reception. A lovely day.

Emma and Chris – The Barn at Bury Court Wedding Photography

Firstly…a big thanks to Emma and Chris who have waited patiently since my mega three wedding weekend to see some images from their wedding at Bury Court Barn. I really appreciate your patience. It was great to be back at The Barn for the penultimate time this year. A lovely September day that threatened in the skies yielded to a wonderful evening full of light and warmth. The day started in a state of calm madness. I think all bridal preparations are madness, just some are more reserved and measured. Emma was measured enough to have the dress on with more than 45 minutes to spare. The boys started with Darren at The Star in Bentley. Guys always find time to get ready quickly when a pub is involved. Nice one.

At first I did a double take. It was literally minutes to go and at the front stood a dashing groom talking on his blinking mobile phone. Seriously? Who needed to speak to him now? I set about my business and then noticed, part way through the ceremony that his phone was now sitting on the registrar’s table. Chris is either security detail for POTUS or there is someone of great importance on the other end of that line. Great importance wins. It was, in fact, his Gran. Bless. It all made sense.

Julia and Jon at The Barn at Bury Court

Another speed demon blog entry today in a blazing effort to keep up and press on. This wedding takes us back to the 20th of August. Normally weddings are blogged no more than a few days after. But I’m learning that August when having school aged children is a challenging month. I’ve suddenly become extremely task orientated…and I dare say it…multi-tasking too. That’s right…I’m a woman (well, I did see ‘One Day’ when we were on holiday).

Today its Julia and Jon…a delightful couple with a notoriously interesting view of time. So sayeth the shepherd, so sayeth everyone else too. Its all part of the charm and romance of it all I reckon. Bless ‘em. We started in Ockham outside of Guildford and by the time your tummy starts to rumble we were at Bury Court Barn near Farnham. Traffic was kind.

Quickie in text today. I had thought about doing a smaller blog post as the work piles up…but then I have a wee stalker in Alex’s mum. So I figured that a little extra time might just save the bunny (if you know what I mean).

A cracking time at Bury Court on Saturday. Every detail well thought out…every timing to a tee (unless you count the moving speech time…I’ll forgive you Al). Just a wonderful day…thanks Natalie and Alex for having us along (sorry to say that only my images appear today due to time constraints).

Louise and Sam at Kew Gardens – Cambridge Cottage

Did you hear the one about the Irishman who got lost on the way from the pub to the church? You will….

The day starts all rather calmly. London weddings always scare me a little. I know…Richmond and Kew aren’t REALLY London. Well, to me they are. As London as anything else I get to. The traffic, the crazy pedestrians. Seriously, I get the eebiejeebies. So Darren and I arrive nice and early here, checking out the location of the church and the pub for the boys long before we needed to be there. Perhaps I’m alone in my general caution in relation to London weddings.

Louise and Sam met me last fall at Mercedes Benz World. An odd place for a meeting. Sadly neither of us were there to buy a car. I had always hoped that they would book. There something about his hair and her smiley personality that said “this could work”. Luckily for me, they did and that’s where our little story begins.

The Groom and a large contingent of guests all started at The Roebuck, high up on Richmond Hill. The plan being that the crowd would move, en mass, to the church near the bottom of the hill. Conversely I started in a quiet street just outside of Twickenham, The Home of English Rugby. I’m guessing this may have been intentional as I bumped into a few pictures of Sam in his rugby kit and they did have Jerusalem as a hymn. So far, so good.

I dash off back to Richmond to see the last of the guests arrive and be ready for Louise’s arrival as well. I walk into the church to find 2 people. Those two being the Groom and the Best Man. But wait a minute…its 8 minutes to 2. We kick off in 8 minutes. Quickly a few more folks arrive in the form of ushers who decide “let’s call back to the ladies and tell them to hold fire”. Too late, they are already en route. Suddenly a flood of guests arrive and I’m guessing this is all going to plan. 2 minutes, 1 minute…2pm. Apparently there are a few more guests to come. OK…it happens. Meanwhile the Priest reminds us all to double check that our mobile phones are OFF. Anyone who has a phone that goes off is promised by Father that he will ‘kill them’. Umm…ok. Perhaps not the kind of Priest I want to cross. Passive, yet effective. Finally at 5 past a call is put out. It would appear that those last ‘few’ guests turn out to be an entire row and all from Louise’s Irish contingent. It would seem that upon leaving the pub, they made a wrong turn and were, in fact, heading completely the opposite way. Thankfully, the compass corrected itself and soon we were underway.

The rest of the day went off without incident. Kew Gardens did their best to wow everyone with the guests enjoying a trip on the Kew Explorer shortly after the last speech whilst we got to visit a few of the landmark locations for a few portraits.
