Pete and Phil’s Big Gay Wedding at Cain Manor
Posted by: | CommentsIn keeping with the in joke I am here to present to you Pete and Phil’s Big Gay wedding. As a Cain Manor photographer I’m keen to try new and interesting situations. This wedding certainly didn’t let me down. Of course, technically its not a wedding. Its a civil partnership. But here is what I can tell you about Pete and Phil. I sat through many speeches and countless ceremonies and I have come across very few people who so clearly loved each other, with such conviction, caring and tenderness than I did at the WEDDING on Saturday at Cain Manor. No BS, no exaggeration, no tall tales. It was a wedding I was only too happy to say at the end “man…that was great”.
Of course, being a civil partnership there are some things which invariably will change. In this case we had two Father of the Groom speeches. We had two Groom speeches. Despite having two Best Women, we didn’t get to enjoy a single speech from the lovely ladies. What didn’t change? The biggest NON change was the time it took both Pete and Phil to get ready. Classically groomed and ready to go in under 15 minutes. Nice!
Above all, their strong connection and love for each other cascaded from the top down. Friends and family alike carried on with the warmth throughout the day. A day won’t soon forget and provided they don’t send their album choices through on a Saturday afternoon (they know what I mean) then its one album I’m totally looking forward to designing.
A couple of links for you.
The venue: Cain Manor part of the Bijou Venue Group
The florist: Emma Lappin
The amazing cupcakes: Crumbs and Doilies
The hottest saxophone quartet around: A Good Reed
As usual, there are more photos to view on Facebook. In order to tag yourself (and I whole heartedly encourage you to do so) you need to ‘Like’ my Facebook Business Page (Facebook’s rules, not mine). But what’s the worst that could happen except you get forced to look at outstanding, creative and emotional wedding photography every week. Hardly a hardship! A link to the Facebook page will appear at the end of this post…as well as a link to how you can get 20% off reprints for a limited time.
Finally…in the immortal words of Pete Bell. “Tolerance and equality” — oh and “Big Gay Wedding”
To add a bit of balance, the first of my bookend Cain Manor photos
Seriously…getting shoe shots of men’s black shoes is a PITA. OK…so I found something I didn’t like :)

Symmetry…apart from the fact Phil ties one shoe before putting the other on…same as me. Pete, on the hand…a rebel?

More symmetry…right down to the hangers

’twas the first time I heard it…they all shouted it…BIG GAY WEDDING!
I kept getting the De Niro “I’m watchin’ you” from Meet the Parents from that kid
There’s something very street photography about this…not your typical wedding shot but something that I really like about it
Oh man…I’m back in heaven. The ceremony room light at Cain Manor! Yeehah!

Why couldn’t you just wear these shoes…heck of lot easier to photograph!
Aww…bless.
DOPPLEGANGER….today its Simon Calder

KYLIE?
Kylie, Kylie, Kylie!

Next stop…prison for breaking an entering — or rather just entering an opening — either way I’m not entirely sure Cain wanted me to use this space
No Butch Cassidy, but two sunflower kids
“Look through me” — so they did
4 x 2

Best Wo-Men
This almost warrants an animated GIF!
Pete’s Mad Dad!
No need to shout!…ok, there was!
The bookend complete!

Phil and Pete – A Cain Manor Wedding – Just One
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve got lots to say about Pete and Phil’s ”Big Gay Wedding’ (part of what I have to say is why I can say that)…however I’m rushing off to London this morning to see a friend I’ve known since I was 4 or 5 years old. So basically, I’m going to do a Just One and then leave it with you.
I was kind of trapped during the speeches. At Cain Manor (a lovely Hampshire and Surrey borders wedding venue — there’s the SEO bit out of the way). there is a 30 ft window that sits behind the top table. Sometimes this isn’t a problem…but today the sun was in the worst position and there was a shaft of light that stopped my from moving in certain directions. When I took this picture I, at first, was pleased with the emotion and the moment but would have liked it more if I could have moved to crop out the ‘lovely lady’ on the right. Not that I don’t like the ‘lovely lady’ but perhaps this needed to more about Pete and Phil and no one else. Now I sit here and I see it and I think…”pah…she helps make the image”. A context, a supporting feeling. ‘Lovely ladies’ do that you know. (I hear photographers across the land say…move forward then…got burned by that earlier – HUGE shaft of light…let’s just say rock, paper, scissors is going to be a recovery job)
More tomorrow afternoon. Safe journey to SF guys!

Wedding Photography at Cain Manor – Claire and Michael
Posted by: | CommentsThe time has come to rock on in to 2010 and what better way to do than a double header weekend with two venues I know intimately…well, not THAT intimately. I will never rap “I once got busy in a Cain Manor bathroom” or anything but I know my way around the place pretty well — and Tithe Barn too. Claire and Michael were great clients…easy going, nice to know and generally free from preservatives. A great combination leading to organic imagery at no additional cost. You know, that no one really EVER reads the blurb above the images so I have to ask…why are you. I mean what could possibly learn from anything I would have to say. Go look at the images….forget about this waffle!
Another worried victim of the old ‘I gave my mate my mobile and it had pics of me in my pants on it’ OR just a nervous FOB….
Michael gets comfortable with his two up two down tee-pee complete with double glazing
It took time to convince him it wasn’t called a buttonhold
The dress is from Scotland and a whole lot tastier than Haggis

Da boys….and look close and you can find ‘Ashley’ larging it up on the right
Why its flowers….in the bath…naturally!
Surely you can’t be serious…(sorry, only Simon will get that)
Oh dear…the men from the traditional photography police are rocking up outside my house now — these guys are worse than the phone cops
Texture…like a fine mousse

For the record….NOT Bing
“No, I’m from Iowa…I only work in outer space” — Captain James T Kirk, Driver
The debate rages…is it an awning or a vestibule?
Thriller!
Claire and Michael found the hypnotic flowers more than a little helpful with attaining the ‘aspirational’ items on the gift list
“Hold your breath…make a wish….count to three. Come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of pure imagination” — Willy Wonka!

“I make this suit look goooooood”

Posted by: | CommentsOnce said by a flying man-boy in a green suit … “Here we go!” (that’s Peter Pan in case you were wondering)…today really kicks off the 2010 wedding season. Yes I realise I had weddings in January and yes, technically those were 2010 weddings. But there’s something more resolute about the coming year when the shift changes, the weather starts to warm, the daffodils come out and the new F1 season begins. So before my blog gets impounded by the Aussie police for improper use let’s get on with the first Just One of the cup campaign.
Ironically I’m sure I had other worthy JO candidates. But this happened so early in the day that it stuck with me and sentiment never hurts an argument.

Posted by: | CommentsShame her name wasn’t Lola…I can see it now:
Charlie: “I have this little Bride Lola…she’s small and very funny”
but then if you don’t have a toddler you probably won’t know what I’m on about — and if you fit that category perhaps you need to visit here.
Anyway…I haven’t been to Cain Manor since November of last year. Glad to see my Cain Manor weather magic still has so miles left. I’ve never shot there when its ever rained. Its a gift you see…and one I reckon other potential clients should recognise. Its just irresponsible to work with anyone else :)
I always love working there. Its part of my trio of wicked ceremony light (Hampton Court House, Clandon Park and Cain Manor…suspiciously ALL Surrey wedding venues). And…we’re off!

I love the hairspray — a little wierd I know

The boys chat outside — I love the fact that the Bride can watch everyone arrive but they can’t see her

Me(e,e,e,e) and Capt…Capt Jones

I didn’t really get funky with shoes (sorry fans)…but this is amusing…not a setup shot, it just happened

My Just One

it so easily could have been Just two

Charlie takes a moment

Yet another person who’s seen the inside of the Pulp Fiction briefcase…one day! one day I tell you!

Cue great light…and a double exposure? no, its Charlie’s twin brother Dave — yes…that’s right Chaz and Dave

To reply to Charlie’s comment in his speech…yes, I got it!

No…he’s not a Hobbit…its just the angle (in case there was any confusion)

The EU can take away 100W light bulbs…but they can’t take away this!

Exit

Pimms AND a snow cone…some people just don’t know when to stop

Yes…Cain Manor is all its cracked up to be

for once I keep a photo mainly for the person who isn’t the focus…the expression dead left rocks my world

The Captain returns

Why yes…that is a watermelon and a pea…why do you ask?

Dad’s look makes this for me

Charlie’s mum (a mother of twins mind you)

Patricipating in my ever constant search for grunge

You had me at the glasses — J Maguire

Starburst or Opal Fruits?

Cathy..the greatest client I never had

As Roger Daltry once said — Foof Are You (foof, foof, foof, foof) (don’t worry, I wasn’t insulting you)

Posted by: | CommentsIn so many ways tonights Just One goes against all my non-traditional blood…but then I’m a sucker for little girls now that Holly is growing up. So let’s just give it a title…how about ‘Evolution’ and then I can call it arty :)
