Walk Upon England’s Mountain Green – Pt 1
Posted by: | CommentsNumber one…I’ve yet to see an English mountain and number two this has nothing to do with England and everything to do with Jerusalem. As in Israel. During our trip to shoot Emma and Effi’s Tel Aviv wedding Nicola and I took a day to travel out to Jerusalem to see the Holy City. In some ways its like nothing you’ve seen before. So much history and meaning. Walking in places that, until then, were only the places talked about to you. To see them in the flesh is breathaking. Of course they are literally thousands of visitors to the Old City. Jews, Christians, Catholics, Orthodox (Greek, Russian, Armenian) and probably a few Atheists in there as well. So in other ways it feels like a full blown tourist attraction. No sign of mouse ears or blokes dressed up in character suits thankfully. We did a blitz tour. 3 1/2 hours, just us and a tour guide. We went with the expectation of taking the free tour and ended up on a private tour burning through £70. The odds are it was totally worth it. That’s what I keep telling myself. He knew his stuff, spoke 5 languages (even American) and knew when enough was enough.
I’ve never been a travel photographer. But here are a few things (more later in the week) that I captured.

The Wailing Wall (or Western Wall)

The structure bottom right is Jesus’ tomb where he was laid after being crucified. I couldn’t understand this as I was always taught that he was placed in a tomb, a rock rolled in front. This tomb was in the side of hill or rock face. It was explained to me by the guide that Jerusalem has been destroyed several times and each time things were built on top of other things. Hence the placement.
Inspiration to Weary Travellers
Posted by: | CommentsI know this whole Volcano thing is no laughing matter…I have a friend stuck across the pond…he’s had to give up two weddings and spend a fortune to get back and he hasn’t even stepped on the plane home yet. But if this message finds you weary and down I hope that the following remind of what you have to come home to will perk you up. A bit of Blighty…a wonderful place to be!

Man of God Revisited
Posted by: | CommentsI completed part 2 of my personal project a week or so ago. One more component in a few weeks before I release anything major. However, here is a photo from one of his pastoral visits.

What’s In A Name?
Posted by: | CommentsUnfortunately quite a lot at the moment if you are my friend and fellow photographer David Calvert.
David has just discovered this in light of the recent stories run in the daily papers suggesting that Jon Venables was going by the name of David Calvert. Since then David’s photography site has had over 50,000 hits. Normally we’d be thrilled that his site is so popular, but at the moment he is obviously very concerned.
As his colleagues we are doing all we can to help David disassociate himself from this dreadful story. He is in no way related to David Calvert of Fleetwood, who has also been highlighted in the press and is in no way connected to the tragic case of Jamie Bulger.
David, 46, is a national award winning photographer and his business David Calvert Photography, based in Hertfordshire, specialises in family and child portraiture. David has our complete support in these difficult circumstances and we hope very much that they pass without impact to him, his own family or his business.
Man of God
Posted by: | CommentsA few months back I came up with an idea. The Vicar of our church is retiring at the end of May and it seemed like a good opportunity to convince him to allow me to follow him around for a day and document what he gets up to. Thanks to childcare etc its actually going to be spread out over a couple of days. Today was day 1. Like any job what reckon happens is usually replaced with more office based work than you can imagine. Giles is no different. Meetings, email and reviewing are all part of the more normal things that Vicars get up to. My desire to follow through with the project was enhanced even more after my stint at MyVision. I will, in time, present my entire project but here is a little teaser, an offering if you will, from today.

Save the Wales
Posted by: | CommentsThis past weekend the family and I made our way to a small hamlet up an exceedingly small road north of Abergavenny. The Abergavenny of Wales that is. I was working with a few of my favourite videography friends, Sylvia and Neils from Ever After Video Productions. My role was simple…be a photographer. It was a challenge :)
Basically for 3 of the sessions of their wedding workshop weekend I was to do ‘my thing’ and the delegates had to work around me. Sounds reasonable in principle but Sylvia and Neils worked with everyone loads so I had to take some time in between shots. I suppose the good thing is that I was able to shoot some interesting behind the scenes photos of the workshop. Of course it also meant I got to shoot some interesting couple shots. What? you say…including pictures on your website from a seminar? How very dare you!!! Well, this was different. I was responsible for setting it all up, my ideas, my spaces. The ‘couple’ weren’t models but friends of Sylvia and Neils from Belgium. So I got to deal with language issues as well. So in light of that I reckon I get to post them.
I took notes
They tell me that videographers work really hard…yeah…sure…whatever
A sight that strikes fear into even the most immortal wedding photographer
Opening Neils’ box of tricks
Only the mightiest of 4x4s could make it to the top
You get this….

Cheer up Chuck…she’s a beaut
Who knew you could fill your car with candy floss? or are those clouds? Can’t recall
Solution to smouldering groom problem
My wife was mortified to learn that this one, the one before and the one after was actually taken in our bedroom. I’m leaning over the cot to take this…
So…yes…for those following at home this is MY bed!
Not the Alps
I never did learn what was behind the green door
