Hah. I’m pretty open about my metrosexual appreciation of Glee. Sometimes the singing gets to me. I hear ya .. “eh, isn’t that what its all about”. Yes and no. Whoever writes the scripts is a genius. Anyone who believes that this show is for the teenage kids it portrays you are sadly mistaken. First, think of the music. Journey, REO Speedwagon, John Denver, Color Me Badd, Young MC, Billy Idol. Yes, I know there’s some Lily Allen, Christina, Madonna and Beyonce but anyone brave enough to put Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” on a ‘teen’ show has a major set. But for me its the dialogue. You have to listen hard, follow it close but you get some gems. Here are few favourites:

“While Jackie Daniels is a great name for a power boat or something, it’s not great for a baby girl.”
“I’m a sex shark. If I stop moving, I die.”

But my favourite is:

“I feel like that guy that lost all his hair and lost all his strength.”
“Samson?”
“Agassi.”

Someone writes this…and boy are the good at it.

For the record, I’ve recently got a Panasonic GF1 with a 20mm 1.7 lens. I’ve searched (and even bought) compact digital cameras in the past. I was totally unconvinced by the genre. Then I heard about this camera, had a look at some info, nabbed a few files from a friend and made the leap. I can honestly say that it is the BEST compact camera I’ve ever seen or used. Fast focusing, nice optics (in the 20mm 1.7), great video (720) and proper shutter sound (not a WAV file but a real shutter). If you’ve been searching, I suggest you take a look. All of the images above (and from here on if you notice an image in 16:9 format you’ll know its the GF1 — BTW, you can shoot in 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9…I just like the 16:9 for something completely different to my usual).

Worlds Worst…

…holiday photographer. Yep…that’s me. We spent nearly 10 days in Dubai (well, Ras al Khaimah) and I come home with nothing but photos of the kids. Nothing about where we were or what we did…although to be fair we didn’t do much apart from hang out by the pool, chase Holly all around the pool and dig in the sand from 5pm. We had an amazing time in an amazing place. We met some great people and were totally sad to see it all end. So if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been the last few weeks, now you know. Dubai and the UAE is a great place to spend the Easter holidays. With so much sunshine you are certain to have great weather. Plus, by going around Easter you get in just before the really hot season arrives. Apparently October is even better….

Evan…that dear little boy…turned 5 on Saturday. With a big party, a bouncy castle, loads of friends and some very tired parents, aunties, grandparents and sister, we managed to get through it. Many thanks to everyone who came along and for all the lovely gifts. I’ll be working on the kiddie-booth (sounds dodgy) photos this week ready for the thank yous.

After nearly 5 days away I finally managed to make it back home. The MyVision workshop came to a conclusion last night and this morning everyone started making their way home. Well, last night isn’t entirely accurate as a large contingent of us were up until 4:30 this morning and still a few more a bit later. I hadn’t done that since university and even then only on the rarest of occasions. I think you discover a whole new threshold of tired when you have kids.

It was great to see Nicola and the kids…to remind myself of the reason I do these things…after collecting Evan from school I got the camera out.

Hope to have some new Brighton pics up next week.

No I’m not referring to the mid Naughties boy band (although ‘Year 3000′ was rather catchy). No I’m referring to the recent disappearance of the kids on the blog. I was caught out yesterday when a friend who hadn’t been in touch for a while said she’d been to the blog only to find photos of weddings. Considering the blog was originally founded on the adventures of E it would appear I’ve been more than a little delinquent in my duties of daddydom. So, to redress the balance, tip the scale and generally even the score here are a number of images taken over the past few weeks. Sorry for being a slack*ss.

The real bummer here is that I finally got a proper sledge for him…the day the snow melted. I’m desperate for MORE snow!

Got The Pox

A right of passage…a sign you’re human…or just generally a PITA. Yes, Evan has got the pox…chicken to be more specific. The scabs have crusted over so things are back to normal…bar the itching. Sadly he missed a few days of school and one of those days was the day I was supposed to see his Christmas play. Nicola saw it this morning but with no one to stay with Holly it meant only one of us could go.

Holly is growing…not just in voice (and believe me, she’s no about to shut up anytime soon) but also in size and milestones. What used to be an effort to stand up has turned into a swift kick of the legs. Two hands can now be one to hold on with. She can move up and down the sofa shuffling along the way. Crawling has 2 speeds..casual and F1 launch control. If there is a biscuit at the other end, she could beat Lewis Hamilton off the line….plus we’ve got 2 bottom teeth as well.
