Jo and Mark’s Moor Park Golf Club Wedding Photography

Better late than never. Jo and Mark’s wedding at Moor Golf Club took place at the beginning of the month. It was one of two clients, who upon getting married, were moving off to the southern hemisphere within weeks of the wedding. Because of this I decided that I would take the time investment in blogging upfront and use it to push on to complete images so that they could take the final product back with them to Oz and NZ. The first of these is Mark and Jo who were married at Moor Park Golf Club. This golfing oasis inside the M25. Its hard to believe you are as close to London as you are when you look out over the rolling hills, fairways and greens. Moor Park itself is very exclusive. Houses the size of Tesco and the area comes complete with its own London Overground station. Membership has its privileges.

It all started at Heathrow. Very appropriate. The new Sofitel at Terminal 5. A rather impressive hotel. I could spend a few hours in there with my camera and a Bride. Sadly this wasn’t to be as things ran a little later than expected. Best laid plans and all that. I have to say I was a bit nervous hitting the M25 on a Saturday afternoon at 1:15pm. Luckily Tom Tom live said it was all good and .. it was. Once at Moor Park we could get down to business. The mansion house is, and I don’t mean this with an disrespect, a bit too grand for a golf course club house. It wouldn’t be out of place in a period drama to be honest. That’s not to say its all about the golf. Inside, the entry hall is grand to say the least. There are some spectacular spaces. The golf and the wedding don’t ever bump into each other (minus the toilets). So it really doesn’t matter. In fact, none of it matters, I’m just thinking out loud.

The wedding was heartfelt and personal with family flying in from Colombia. Nothing more surprising than meeting Jo, hearing her London-esque accent, hear a knock at the door and within seconds she’s going at 100mph in Spanish. Even more surprising when you didn’t know this before hand. Amazing really. Mark is a Doctor. A flying one. Specialising in helicopter based medicine. Why does MASH come to mind. Perhaps not. In any event Mark pulled a rabbit out of hat with personal video messages from family in Colombia and friends from their previous stint in Oz. I suspect that they are already there (Oz that is). How could you leave this lovely English summer :)

Wedding Photography Hertfordshire – Saara and Rob

I fully expected to be employing the use of an Ark on Saturday. The forecast was not looking good. I was desperately disappointed for Saara and Rob because the weather has been exceptional (for Britain) over the last few weeks. Despite the heavy overnight rain the sky cleared and the ground was still hard as a rock. Not a bad thing when you have a marquee in the Hertfordshire country side.

Saara and Rob came as a recommendation from some of my favourite folks, Helen and Ben. Being neighbours it took Helen no time to recommend me and for that I am very grateful. The only bummer came in the fact that they weren’t able to attend due to new arrival of Ted. But then, that’s not a bad excuse is it? What’s more intriguing is that Saara’s Bridesmaid, Katie, has also booked me for December independent of knowing they were both hiring the same photographer. Small world and all that.

Saturday was an exceptional day. Lovely weather, lovely friends and family and a stunning location. The church was in a most idyllic village of Drayton Beauchamp and a wonderful location for a church wedding. Travel back to Tring and through the fields to find the marquee set up on the hill overlooking some amazing countryside.

Some business now. First, I did a more robust post production for today’s blog and Facebook post. Rob and Saara and not only exceptional people but also taking a rather unique honeymoon. 7 weeks away in South America. So in light of this I wanted to give them a little extra. Something more to chew on for the next 50 days.

Saara and Rob – Hertfordshire Wedding – Just One

When I wake up (oh I know I’m gonna be) each wedding morning I never know what I’m going to get. Forrest Gump was right…weddings are like a box of chocolates. Fortunately for me all of mine are dark chocolate based with a gooey inside with at least one big nut. No, that wasn’t a veiled reference to Rob but if you had seen him dancing wearing his sisters fascinator you could be forgiven for believing so. I can’t stop thinking about chocolate now.

Just One’s are meant to be short so in that spirit let’s just get to picture. Each week I’m always faced with some dilemma. Do I take the easy route and show something that Mum would like? Do I find a perfectly composed, well thought out couple shot? Do I show something a bit more thought provoking…something with a bit of emotion to tug the heart strings? Or do I just go for a Bride with a seriously rumbly tummy gobbing whole wheat bread down only minutes before stepping into the Rolls for her most wonderful wedding day. Oh baby…you guessed it!

Buy why? (cries the mothers of Brides the UK over) Because it was a wonderful moment, a magical tension release, a collective uplifting of all of us in the room. A moment you could never rehearse, coordinate or even plan for. That is, at least in part, some of the idea behind Just One. Luton Hoo Wedding Photographer – Donna and Mark

OK…not your average wedding. But then again, what is. This was, technically, their third wedding. Having been married in Vegas at The Bellagio, then following on the next day at an Elvis Chapel off the strip and now to Luton Hoo. I suppose, if you’re being picky this wasn’t even a wedding. No ceremony….but it did have speeches a reception, disco, preparations, formals….most things a wedding does.

Donna is Ben’s brother. Helen and Ben were married last year in Wales….I was lucky enough to shoot their wedding. Moving on, Hels is pregnant and is beaming. Not that she didn’t always beam. When I asked Ben’s mum “how do you feel about being a Granny?” her response was “I can see myself as a Granny…but Ben as a Dad…oh dear”. But then, she’s mad (in a good way) and there’s always Richard Gere aka Ben’s Dad to throw him a few hints at doing the right thing.

Today’s blog is going to be short and sweet. Just my photos as well (although the Dazzler did come along). I’m still recovered from a hard cold (that being not flu but still pretty rotten).

One aside…Donna did mention that in the Elvis wedding one of the vows was to ‘not step on his blue suede shoes’. I can’t top that really!

Siân. Finally I’ve found it. TBH I’m too afraid to put it in the title as it might make the web url go wacky. But you now have your ‘thingy’ over the A.

Congratulations to Siân and Ben. Married on Saturday in St Albans and then back to Battlers Green Farm for a most fantastic party in the garden. I rarely respond to ‘pressure’ situations but when you knock on the door, it opens and on the other side is the groom going “its great to meet the man behind the camera. We’ve been stalking your website for a year. We love [this, that, something else]…no pressure.” Yeah…exactly what I was thinking [palms begin to sweat]. I have to admit though, that at first, we weren’t entirely sure if the crowd were going to open up. They seem a bit…protected. Not S&B, but the guests. Phah! That didn’t last long. Amazing what 150 bottles of wine will do for you. With it being one of the hottest days of the year even Darren and I found ourselves at the drinks tent…no wine for us however. We simply shotgunned a few beers each (lying…its the way to the top). Three things you didn’t know about Siân and Ben (well for some). Number 1: Ben is a concert promoter and rubs shoulders with so rather amazing artists. Number 2: They both got ready at home, in the same house, at the same time. Number 3: If something goes wrong, Siân can kick Madrid’s arse.

I mentioned I might do something a bit different today. I am. Not that big of a deal, but I’m going to post Darren’s tomorrow or Wednesday. Also, I’ve made a big who-ha about guests which you can find in the verbal below.

OK…a whinge. I wish more people would realise that weddings are about people. The Bride and Groom are important…sure. So are those table decorations, Vera Wang perfume boxes, etc etc etc. But let’s be honest…when its all over do you want to look at a hundred photos of place cards and a 300 pictures of yourself. Surely what makes a wedding is mix of people, your friends, family and the reason you’re all there…the couple. Lately, whilst photographing it, I’ve been errant in showing this on the blog. Caught up in some sort of self infatuation with the two main characters I seem to have forgotten to remind you why you do it. Because if you didn’t like them that much it would be a hell of lot cheaper to dispense with the lot and get married with a couple of witnesses and hit Pizza Express on a 2 for 1. So above, is just a selection of the images I took during the first part of the drinks reception. Taking these isn’t anything new…just reminding myself why I’m there. I do, admittedly, have a bit of soft spot for the girlies from Ben’s work. They just gave me so much fodder! All I say is…there’s plenty more where that came from!

When is a Saturday wedding not a Saturday wedding…well, when you kinda start on Friday. Which is exactly what I did for Julia and Michael’s wedding at Moor Park Golf Club and Chalfont St Giles. Julia layed on a special (although some of the chaps might not see it that way) surprise for the boys who were playing a celebration 18 on the fantastic High Course at Moor Park. Being a golfer myself (who, rather unexpectedly, got to play a few holes on Sunday evening) I was chuffed to get the chance to shoot some golf…just not perhaps the way I normally thinking of shooting at golf. So before we move on to the wedding stuff, let’s check out what was up on the Bermuda Bent (ok…probably not Bermuda Bent grass in Hertfordshire, but golfers will be the point).

I said I wouldn’t mention that this wasn’t the first attempt…I lied!

A wee bit about a supplier I met on Saturday at the wedding. Photography may be my thing but if I could pick some other talent I might we be persuaded to select table poetry. OK, what the hell is that I hear you ask! Think of a table magician, but instead replace him/her with a rather talented, quick thinking and comic poet who allows the table to give him 3 concepts, words or ideas and without a single bit of hesitation starts an amazing prose, rhyming every word and even going around the context of those words as well. So..if you are looking for something completely different and terribly unique (that’s a good thing by the way) have a look at Judge The Poet.
