Dear Natalie and Desmond (Nat and Des — or Robert, Rob, Desmondo, Bobby),

You’re leavin…on a jet plane. In fact you’re probably somewhere over the Middle East sippin’ Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain as I write this. Hopefully your journey was safe, happy and filled with champagne. I know that’s how most of my Mondays go. Anywho, just wanted to wish you both the very best on your Honeymoon (do I have to capitalise that) and your future life together. I (or shall I say we…because Darren was there…but I expect you knew that didn’t you Nat…after all etc etc etc) had a fabutastic day with you all. From the Crazy Canucks to your camera shy cousin. I loved how you guys went for the best of Tithe Barn (modestly I will add myself to the list that includes Jacaranda, The Topiary Company, Tiger Rose). We’ve all worked together so many times there we’re all like a pair of comfy shoes. I loved the cheese cake…and for once it wasn’t cheese fashioned into a cake but an actual cheesecake. Yum yum. I loved that you totally trusted both of us to do all the things we know how to do. I loved your band, Funk Federation. Good choice. I loved being part of your prep, meeting your parents (especially you mum…growls like a lion) and seeing the gallery assorted outside their house waiting for you to leave. I didn’t love the pressure of where to put your shoes — Brides today huh. But I think I found something that will please you as well as you bathroom fitter. I loved that you let us ‘adapt’ the ShootBooth to something altogether more cool. In short we just loved being there. How 10 1/2 hours passed so quickly is beyond me. I look forward to hearing from soon.

Sure…I could have gone with the tearful Groom or the emotional Mother of the Bride. I could have dug out a great guest expression or a wicked look captured almost unexpectedly during the cutting of the cake. Perhaps a trusty shoe shot or small detail of the day. But I didn’t. In fact I went with the bare bones….the lowest common denominator of photography. By that I mean something from the ShootBooth. Why? Because sometimes a Just One is just a Just One and sometimes that Just One is just for one…and this time that one is Nat. I’m pretty sure she isn’t expecting this…doesn’t know about it…and it will give her something to ‘gurn’ about. Lots more tomorrow!

Dear Nicola and Mark,

Hey…what a day. It flew by didn’t it! I’m amazed sometimes just how fast a wedding day can go. Especially the good ones. Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for having me along. It was a pleasure to be there. Here are a few of the things that I loved. Jean…I loved how she just wanted to take care of me. Bless. The windows upstairs. How cheeky you all got to spy on the boys. I wonder how you would have taken it if the tables were turned (cue shrieking). Speaking of the boys, it was great to go on a bit of walkies with them before the ceremony. Great fun and they even behaved :) I love the role reversal with your children (can I call them that given their age?) keeping you both in line, calm and getting you there in time. Thanks for your trust…I appreciate that. I loved that Mark’s eldest did a speech and even did THAT joke (more on that later). I loved how they all seem to get on well…did you bribe them with iPhones? I loved the fact that Mark met his Best Man when the Best Man’s son fell over and hurt himself as a wee lad and Mark was the doctor on call. I loved your families…from Clooney to the Supermodel, the mad Oboeist to the Laughing (constantly) sister. I know there were more. I loved that Hen Night photo (my eyes, my eyes!). To all the family, friends, guests and more important Nicola and Mark. Thanks for making it ace!

No Mr Photographer…you can’t take any photos. Its disruptive and takes away from the spirtual feeling of the wedding. Of course we don’t mind if random folks walk in from off the street and watch or that you’ll get set upon by a crazy at the back saying ‘look, another two meet their doom’ (seriously) and finally the book shop…nope it won’t cause any problems either…tills are a great accent to ‘Love Divine’ — bit like in Pink Floyd’s ‘Money’. Grrrrrr…

Helen from MadHen….the absolute, undisputed, top notch, first class band EVER! Seriously. However I do have to recommend to all future clients…DO NOT PUT YOUR BAND NEAR THE KITCHEN at TITHE BARN. Why? Because its right under the sound meter. The band were not supposed to be there…they didn’t want to be there but being total class musicians they did what they had to do. B&Gs have the power to change the minds of suppliers (not the band BTW, they fought their corner) who make bad decisions.

Bless her cotton socks…Emma is no doubt the most patient of Brides. She’s had to wait one of the longest to get a few pictures on the blog. I started last Monday with 4 weddings on deck. I had to blog, work, tend to children, cry-scream-shout profanities at England on TV…a busy week. So its only today that I can release Emma and Gavin’s Tithe Barn Hampshire wedding photo blog. They’re sunning it up somewhere with, and she wasn’t shy about sharing this, two spa treatments a day. Its the USP of the honeymoon location. Gavin, well he gets scuba diving lessons and hopefully a calm, relaxed Bride with a soft spot for the World Cup.

Hook House Hotel Wedding – Kelley and Ben

Four weddings over eight days….no funeral thankfully. Toss in international travel, 9 different locations, 2 countries and a budget airline and you’ve got my week in one. Contrast Tuesday’s 36degrees with Saturday’s 14. Its a pirates life for me.

That being said, let’s cast the net back to Saturday the 12th of June. A time before the painful reality that our footie team simply blows. Before a dribbled ball defined the state of a nations footballing prowess and a manager who took a team with the highest scoring recording in all of Europe winning 9 of 11 qualifying games was reviled. Actually the folks I feel most for are Kelley and Ben who embraced the USA v England game, providing a big screen in the expectation that a solid England win would help propel an evening of jolly. I’m sure the jolly was still there (I wasn’t) but I imagine that the bar probably was required to spur it along.

To Kelley and Ben…thanks for having us there. For making us feel welcome and allowing us to do the things we know to do. Apologies for the delay in getting the blog up and going but take heart in the fact you were the first ‘Just One Too’.

A number of years ago, before the children, Nicola and I made the long trip to South Africa. A wonderful holiday of a lifetime (or as we call it back in the days of two jobs and no kids..a holiday). The wine was amazing, the food was plentiful and the people were warm and welcoming. I’ve been very lucky to be a part of a couple of South African weddings since and they are always a riot. South Africans are like Americans who understand EastEnders. Happy to let their hair down but not too uptight like my fellow countrymen (America that is). This was no exception. We were welcomed in a way that can only be described as ‘part of the gang’. The guests, the family and most importantly Sharyn and Mark. They were totally on board with the way I like to do things — which, in a nutshell is — let it roll and we’ll get what we see. That bit of faith and an almost Olympic level of ‘how to have fun’ means no matter what we did, who we followed or where we were they was too much to take in…in a good way. So thanks to everyone and I hope you enjoy this brief preview.

Wedding Photographer Hampshire – Sam and Chris @ Tithe Barn

No month is complete without a wee visit to Ditcham and the Tithe Barn. Its so good I’m going back next Friday…and there may not even be a wedding on. I’m outta control. To give things just a bit of variety I started out in Exton. A thriving metropolis just on the outskirts of the bright lights and big city of West Meon. Population 104.3 (2 guinea pigs and a bandit rabbit called Wayne make up the .3). You need only to look out the back door of Chris and Sam’s cottage to see the church. Lucky for me traffic wouldn’t be an issue today. A welcoming family, Bridal party and even a rather happy Vicar (just don’t get him started on the McDonald’s story) made for a happy afternoon. You were never in any doubt this was a happy occasion. I don’t think either one of them knew how NOT to smile. I teased Sam a couple of times…”go on…smoulder”…no chance. Its great!

Tithe Barn never fails to deliver…but sadly the weather did. Not much rain but this near Arctic temperature (yes, I consider 8 degrees in May to be Arctic) is really annoying. So we spent all but a few minutes inside. Shame really…but the smiles never subsided and for once I’m not just talking about Darren.
