Evan and Holly’s Dad’s Blog

Hi and welcome to my blog. Filled with images from my recent weddings, engagement shoots, portrait sessions and corporate work. Most importantly its a window into my world...a world where family takes an upper hand and I have the images to prove it. Hopefully you'll take a few minutes to browse and once addicted set the blog as a bookmark. If you have any comments please feel free to add them or just get in touch.

For The Record: The images that I put on the blog from recent weddings may not always be the best or even ones you might expect. They are things that I saw, that I like that I want to share. Sometimes they are part of a quirky story or show a tender or ironic side to a wedding.

Vintage Wedding Table Setting

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I had mentioned previously about Lesley’s attention to detail and amazing styling abilities.  This came through not only in their house but also at the reception.  Each table was lovingly assembled by Lesley and her friend (who just happens to be a set designer – talk about separated at birth).  Anywho, to get the look she wanted to basically found herself in charity shops in every town she’d been to over the past year.  Collecting vintage teacups and old fashioned bits isn’t easy you know (or some I’m told).  The net effect is a superb layout, both aesthetically and practically.  Their theme was very much on the intimate side…with the curtains pulled over I felt that I had to capture this in the style that they intending…so I took it as it was.   It was great to see an great example of the vintage idea take to just the right lengths.

As promised, a few images from Darren from Saturday’s winter wedding of Lesley and Ian in Newnham in Gloucestershire.   Darren has been with me now for over 3 years.  His ability and confidence has grown in leaps and bounds.  Naturally I take all the credit :)  OK, perhaps not.  What I like about working with Darren is that I know I can trust him.  From the simplest of tasks (aka I’m being lazy and don’t fancy getting X from the car) to the most important (say catching the Bride outside the door whilst I’m at the front).  He never ceases to impress and amaze me.  Here are six images from Saturday.

Today is the first of at least 2 posts I’ll make for Lesley and Ian’s Newnham village wedding in Gloucestershire.  What I loved most about the wedding was the community and family spirit that went into it.  The church was chock full of guests with one of the largest contingent of children I had seen in a long time.  I guess when you, as the Bride and Groom, already have 3 children its likely that vast majority of your friends will also have children.  Open arms.  The reception venue wasn’t big enough to cater for everyone so instead of heading on down to The Club they had a warm reception in the church of St Peter’s at the top of the hill.  The vicar, fresh from her chocolate throwing antics was busy helping out with pouring champagne and getting things in order.  With the cake that Ian’s mum made cut folks were tucking in with Ian’s mum doing copious amounts of slicing.  Its so easy to feel part of the experience when you know that everyone is part of it.  Even the turn around from the end of the speeches to the start of the band was a flurry of activity with family helping out in laying out a most wonderful array of items.  I said to Lesley that she didnt really expect people to actually eat it.  With a puzzled look thrown back at me I realised that perhaps that could be taken the wrong way….in fact I meant that no one would want to eat for fear of messing up such an amazingly detailed buffet.  Such is Lesley’s eye and attention to detail.  Below is the bulk of the blog post.  All mine.  So perhaps Thursday I may find a few of Darren’s to share as well as a spotlight on Lesley’s amazing insight into table design.

After last week’s escapades in York it was a long drive from Yorkshire to Hampshire to Gloucestershire…all in one day.  A brief stop over and by 10:30 am on Saturday I was back to work after nearly a 3 weeks of no weddings.  A welcome break for Christmas and the New Year but I was keen to keep my creative side working hard.  No doubt I expect that Ian will have already picked what he thinks today’s Just One will be, so in light of that I had to throw him a curve ball.  Some might say that’s just not Cricket.  But hey, its a year when England beat the Aussies down under so anything goes…right?

More tomorrow….
