Alex and Simon – Civil Wedding Engagement Photos

A few weeks back I got the chance to meet up again with Alex and Simon. Their civil partnership is coming up in June at Eltham Palace. A wonderful venue I can’t wait to get back to. These guys have a real eye for detail so I can’t wait to see what they come up with in styling the wedding. I’m guessing there may be a few more ‘details’ than normal with this one.

You knew it would happen. After nearly two weeks of sunshine and warm weather, the day of my latest (pr)e-shoot and it rains….A LOT! Nevermind, when life deals you a lemon, make lemonade…then add a bit of Southern Comfort to it and you’re mint. It seemed to do little damped the spirits (geddit) of Mills and Ben. Another quick client meeting. This time with Lorna and Charlie who booked me from Singapore. After we dispensed with the details I offered them one of 15 minute turbo sessions. Just a laugh and chance to see what I get up to on a wedding day. Most clients get worried about this (although champagne often quells any concerns) but its nice to say “that’s it guys…nothing more complex than that”. So, with all of us dressed for a day at the beach we buzzed through 3 locations in 15 minutes chatting along the way.

Cherkley Court – Engagement Photography – Nicola and Steve

OK…strictly speaking this ISN’T engagement photography. A proper engagement shoot would be about 1.5 to 2 hours…so 12 minutes hardly constitutes an engagement session. But 12 minutes is what we had and 12 minutes is what we did. It was kind of cool to see what we could get in a limited time span…especially considering they had only just met me for the first time. Normally, on a wedding day, both bride and groom are used to be photographed either through preparations or the ceremony or etc etc. So to turn up, how you doing and shoot is pretty daunting.

BTW, this was shot at a new venue (well, 3 years old) called Cherkley Court. Sorry, the building isn’t 3 years old…its really old, but its in its third season as a wedding and events venues. Pretty sweet!

The sun was at it worst…directly overhead…but I got some stuff I was pleased with.

Couldn’t decide which one I liked best…so here are two. Amazed at how much brighter the reflection is compared to the actual subjects

What was funny about this room is that its just a passage way. The coordinator thought I was made to use it…but there was a viewing going on in the rest of the house. So Lin…whatcha reckon?

Evan came out with 2 corkers (OK, by the time I tell you it won’t have quite the same impact) this weekend.

1. Evan demonstrates his knowledge of how things are by explaining that when he was a baby he was in mummy’s tummy. We both look at each other (bemused), smile and Nicola says “yes, buddy, you were. Mummy had a great big old tummy and you were in it.” To which Evan replies, “but not anymore mummy, you have a very little tummy”. Needless to say hugs and cuddles for Evan. Chalk up the brownie points!

2. Lose the brownie points. My wife has…well…grey hair. She has done since the age of 23. I always said she should embrace it but we’ve agreed to disagree on it. So last night was hair colour night and naturally Evan gets curious. “Mummy, what’s that in you hair?” “Its hair colour.” “But why?” “To make mummy look pretty” (cue 5 seconds of silence) “Mummy….not pretty yet!” I assume this is because she had gobs of gook in her hair and if you squint hard she looked like Amy Winehouse (off the crack of course).

This past weekend’s wedding was a no blog zone. I told them to simply pay their taxes and then they come out of hiding…some people never listen. However I do have a few things for you. First a couple of engagement sessions.
