Don’t sign the contract (apparently). First off…let me just say this. I’m biased. It’s true. I (well, we) spent over 10 hours with Lisa and Simon (not Mr Grey at all) and yet this wee preview contains 6 images from the bit I spent only an hour at. That being the ‘Bridal Prep’ at Lisa’s parents house. Why? Good question. I guess it boils down to a) complete free reign, b) its never the same thing twice, c) space and light are so much easier to work in (see point a), d) see point a again. Its generally the bit I’m most looking forward to seeing. This doesn’t take away AT ALL from the amazing church, gorgeous Groom, smashing venue, fantastic caterers, lively band etc etc. Its just how I roll. So…a quick preview for the Bride (and Groom as well) who “doesn’t do Facebook”.
Yes…I know…its borderline blasphemy..forgive me this indiscretion

The dress has an unexpected number of one liners
I know…seriously…12 images and 6 from the prep…you must be mad man!

More in a few weeks
Slowly they trickle in! Today is all about Kirsti and Nick at Gate Street Barn. The ham in my wedding sandwich a couple of weeks ago. If you’re wondering what I mean its all about a wedding the day before, a wedding the day after. Some say that wedding photography is just the “same old thing week in and week out”. They say “seen one Bride you’ve seen them all”. I say refer to Messrs Bachman, Turner and Overdrive who will tell you “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet”. All life carries an element of familiarity. But then each of us have something that makes us unique. Weddings are exactly the same. Sure…I’ll visit Gate Street Barn 9 times this year. Each time I’ll see a couple, some guests, a cake. But goodness me that’s where it all ends. This week the barn was filled with family and kids. Last time it was metal band drummers. Which is better. Neither. Well, neither is any better than the other. They are both fantastic. They are individual and unique to the people who fill it. The memories that they take away will be entirely different. Surely I’m repeating myself now.
And so it was. A day filled with family and kids. Friends and champagne. And one tasty pig (hog roast…your mind is racing). Oh, and before I forget Jimmy Choos. Nice!
A couple of bonuses. First some images from Darren on the blog…not just in the Facebook bit. Second, more images on Facebook. As usual, have a gander below, then at the end you’ll find more images by following the link to the my Facebook Business Page. If you were there and want to tag your handsome mug feel free. Facebook makes you ‘like’ the business page first. No animals are harmed in doing so.

And now a few from the wickedly good looking Darren

Naturally Darren provides a lot more than the 4 images I gave him credit for here. There are more in the Facebook Gallery.
As promised there’s loads more on my Facebook Business Page. To view more from Kirsti and Nick’s Gate Street Barn wedding, click here.
There’s something very ‘challenging’ when you arrive at the home of the Bride to encounter the words “oh my God…meet the best wedding photographer ever”. OK. No pressure. Looks like I better deliver then :) After I picked my jaw off the floor I then set upon doing things just the way I normally do. Only now I had that message ringing in my ear. Give me strength!
After a short visit to Farnham I then made my way back ‘home’. Tithe Barn was the destination and the short drive across the country roads put me back in my zone when I arrived in Ditcham. The friendly faces of Sam et al greeted me and knowing that Darren was inside I could take a minute to get ready for the arrival of Amy and the girls via to lovely lane leading to Tithe Barn.
I had met Stuart twice. Once at the wedding of Annie and Matt a few years back and again at their consultation last year. I remembered a firm character (that’s a compliment BTW) with great smile and a devilsh sense of humour. What I found was a pacing, deep breathing, tie jangling mess of a nervous man. I know I was in for fun! Stuart didn’t fail to deliver and really, neither did Amy. The looks from both of them priceless. Its days like this that make you go all gooey inside. What followed was a fabulous day with some pretty remarkable people. Some old faces and new ones to boot. A crazy mad sister and some rather revealing photos from the Hen do. Top it off with music by the remarkable ‘Rollercoaster‘ band and I was in my happy place. Thanks to Amy and Stuart for an exceptional day.
I will post a few more on my Facebook business page. For now…read below, have a look and then at the end you’ll find a link to more.

Rock chick. The smell of wine and not so cheap perfume. Don’t stop.
I used to really love that song. Once upon a time there weren’t very many Journey fans in this neck of the woods. It was inspired choice to use the song as the final scene of The Sopranos. But once it went Glee. Well, that was it. Interesting anecdote I went the wife to see Rock of Ages, the musical in London. There’s an open gag about Def Leppard not allowing them to use any of their songs. Strangely, they CAN use their songs in the Hollywood movie of the musical. I reckon someone saw the wheelbarrows of money being dropped off at Journey’s house and now they’re hoping for a piece of the action. Pah.
What does this all have to do with Lauren and Ben. Not a lot really. Apart from she is the ultimate Rock Chick. Now married to the drummer in the band. Plus…in some images you’d be correct to think she’s Amy Winehouses’ Doppleganger. Ben is a video man and a drummer…even got a drum cake…lucky man. Plus he got to marry Lauren…more lucky.
It was another fantastic day at Gate Street Barn. Starting at Keepers Cottage and then rolling on over to the Barn. I had my trusty sidekick, Darren, a sky full of sunshine and room full of people ready to see it through. Good times.
Its been a while for Lauren and Ben. I’m so exceedingly grateful for their patience in this arriving on the interweb. As well as the images below you can also find more on my Facebook business page. Have a look through these and at the end you’ll find a link to more. Enjoy.
Rather presumptuous considering I took this long BEFORE the wedding

Wednesday weddings are always cool. No…its a rule. You can’t have a wedding on a Wednesday until you are something rather special. It goes without saying that you have to have an equally awesome photographer for a Wednesday wedding as well. No rules were broken here! This was an amazing day. Amazing for many reasons. First it was just after the Jubilee, so everyone was in a patriotic state of mind (better than narcotic I guess). In a week of some pretty questionable weather this sat right in the middle with only a couple of moments of rain…quite incredible really. It had a church in a hospital and a brother of the Bride who could actually talk to Peacocks. Tell me people…that’s pretty special. These guys rock. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments for me came in the last few minutes of my coverage. The first dance, and in fact all of the music for the evening, was a carefully selected mix of music strung together as a single mp3 file and planned out amazing precision. There was only one hitch. The amplifier in the venue decided to go wonky and as a result any volume over bum rumbling cut out the protection switch shutting the amp down. This was not what I was talking about in being special Mr Amp. They were keen to the get the ‘evening’ started and to get the first dance out of the way. I told them a story about a couple a number of years ago who wanted to walk out of the church to “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. However when the church warden pushed play they got “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Take two…you guessed it…”Bohemian Rhapsody”. After a third visit from Freddie and the boys the Father of the Bride simple started singing and by the end of the first line the church was in full swing. With Catherine and Mikey, they knew they had enough volume to get through the first dance…just…and with the sun out it was unlikely that the real party was going to get started for another hour of so. A new amp was on its way from Basingstoke. So the solution was simple. The first dance was Elbow’s “One Day Like This”. Get to the repeat chorus and encourage the human peacock to start singing. What followed was a couple of minutes of pure wedding gold. As powerful and heart warming as my Bohemian Rhapsody experience.
You can see even more on my Facebook Business Page. But before you click on over there…have a gander below and you’ll find the link at the bottom of this post.

It was the day after the night before. Perhaps the last of the warm weather. Summer, it was great whilst it lasted. Time to switch gears for a fun filled day at Holy Trinity in Guildford followed by a reception at the spectacular Gate Street Barn. Carla simply shone bright, gorgeous in her detailed dress and Jonathan just looked happy to grown out of the “most annoying guy in her tutor group” at Uni. Funny how things change huh. Unfortunately with my backlog of work growing I don’t have buckets of time for great prose. Know this. Two beautiful, soulful people took the step to spend their lives together in front of family, friends and little old me. For that I’m eternally grateful and I wish them both the best of luck in the future.
There will be a few more images in a Facebook Gallery. Have a look at these images and then, at the bottom of this post, you’ll find a link to more on my Facebook business page.
